i saw 2 red tailed catfish for sale today in another LFS both were around 2 inches and sep;erated by a divider, and were priced at 30 pounds, i know they grow to around 36" but real nice fish, and was just wondering why they were kept seperated, are they aggresive toward each other?

Redtails arent usually aggressive to one and other but will try to swallow anything in the tank so if one was slightly smaller than the other then maybe they were just being cautious.

Yeah. I've seen one of those things swallow a 19'' clown knife.

I saw a redtail at a crappy lfs and I felt sorry for him. He was about 25 inches long and in a15 gallon tank with nothing else. Felt like I was at a grocery store. Poor fish

Sorry but I have to stick up for fish shops here......did you ever think that they had just taken it off a customers hands to get to a bigger better home than what the previous owner had.

When fish are in shops it's often for a short time unless there in a display tank, if the red tail was for permanent display purposes I'll eat my words with a side salad and mayo.

Anyone else wondering how a 25" fish was being kept in a 24" tank? :look:
