hello i am inheriting a RTBS (red tailed black shark), any info would be handy, i have an understocked 4 foot tank so i dont think size will be an issue, mollies in the tank at present. all info would be appreciated. :) thanks

Could you give the full name of RTBS? As some may not know exactly what that is.

:thanks:

thanks jonseyuk for the site im reading it now, as i said im inheriting it, i guess i need to learn alot more before it arrives. :)

ok i have a redtail black shark who is about 5inchs and when you first introduce them to a tank all hell breaks lose
you should only have one to a tank and ensure he has somewhere to defend a terrotory for himself but they do calm down once they show tank whos boss...i also have a albino red tail shark who i inherited of modaz from this forum which was same showed tank whos boss but everythings peacefull now this is in another tank :hyper:

what do you mean my terrotory to defend do they need a hiding place like a cave or something ?
im dubious about getting this now, however if i dont take him i gotta feeling he will be flushed or something.

yes i mean rocks plants caves which he will feel at home in :good:
you only have mollies?yes you should be ok take him n see how he goes if after a few weeks its aggresive then you could allways rehome him at your lfs

Mine is quite large and has had only a few skirmishes with other fish. Not the terror that jonesyUK has heard.

also there no where near as aggresive as people make out them to be unless there kept with same style fish

Agreed - I have one and he is one of the most skittish fish I have.... he is very rarely seen as when you get close to the tank he darts off behind the plants.

I have never seen him attack any of my other fish (Look in my sig for stock) so I am either lucky or they aren’t that aggressive?

thanks all for the responses, i will adopt him, and if he is too violent i guess i will just have to get yet another tank, however most people seem to think that all will be ok. :)

if you don't have a copy of it yet there's a bit about rtbs in this month's pfk... not a lot but it talks about how to sucseccfully integrate them so may be of use :good:

written by our very own nmonks if memory serves me correctly too :good:
