Hi Guys

I hope someone can help me. I have a red Tailed shark named Sharky who i am very attached to and he isn't very well!

After feeding he seems to have what i can only describe as an epiletic fit. He flys round the tank in summersaults, and eventually lands either on the bottom or in the plants. He seems unable to move for approximately 2 minutes breathing very fast. Once he comes round he swims into a corner and lies still for around half an hour and then he is back to his usual self. This is happening every other day after feeding.

All my other fish seem to be OK and are not suffering any Ill effects. The PH in the tank in 7.5 and the water temperature is 25 degrees. Nitrite and Nitrate are 0, and there is practically no ammonia in the water.

Can anyone give me a clue???

Hi there;

Sounds like you have a problem. Firstly, what are you feeding him? I have only had this problem, once before, and my fishie died. Does he have ick or maybe some sort of parasite. If he has a parasite, it will be really hard to tell.
Maybe someone else can help, because I really can't think of anything! :no:

i agree with .earth. i think u should check wat ph level red finned sharks need. in other words double check everything hope this helps B)

hi

He eats tetra fish flakes and Blood worms for his meals. Will re check the PH levels, but if anyone else can help it would be appreciated

Thanks Guys

I had that exact problem with my very first freshwater tank... I knew absolutely nothing and went to a really bad fish store. They gave me some fish (neons and a couple of guppies) and said i wouldnt have to cycle the tank with those fish, they could go straight in.

Anyway, after a day or so the neons started having 'fits' - flying round the tank, swimming upside down and literally bouncing off the edge of the tank.... Then they'd go and lie on the bottom

The problem with mine was the nitrite... If you're sure yours is fine then i guess it cant be that, but i cant think of anything else that would cause it! I just thought id mention that as it sounds so similar!

Maybe do a couple of good water changes over the next few days and hope it helps him! Other than that i cant really help...

Jess
