i have a 10g tank and i was wondering if it would be ok to add a red tail shark with a FEMALE betta and 3 glowlight tetras

It is best to keep one of this species in your tank because they will become very aggressive and territorial towards others. Although very nice looking they can get to 6inch, far too big for your tank, im afraid. These fish can be very hostile and are not recommended for community fish tanks with smaller tropical fish. Their min. tank size is 15g
and Tetras should be kept in groups of atleast 6.

I don't believe a red tailed shark would be compatible with those fish (too large and aggressive), and a ten gallon tank is way to small to house a red tailed shark, which grows to about 6 inches.

the red tail shark (or any fish with 'shark' in it's name gets too big for a 10g.

A minimum tank size for a red tailed black shark is actually 55 US gallons due to its aggressive and territorial nature

Most websites you search will recommend anything from 30-40 gal upwards but anything smaller than 55 gal and you'll be heading towards disaster

there is one linked recently, on this forum, saying only 10g.

Its stupid, most of these websites are only taking into account a fishes size when giving minimum tank suggestion rahter than including the fishes temperament when calculating tank sizes. Taking into account that a RTBS only reaches around 6" I'm not surprised to see sites stating 10 gal but thats just causing problems for new keepers and keepers that are unaware of the fishes nature.

in a purely jocular frame. if you have a 10g tank and an RTBS. you could always teach it to use a parachute, i guess.

I had to rehome a red tailed black shark after 3 weeks in my 25 gal tank..It claimed about 80% of the tank as its territory and harrased anything that came near.

I really like that fish but he had to go back
