both of my bettas have 2 stripes on their gills, i must be doing something wrong, they are both veiltails, 1 gallon, aged tap water, sometimes just dechlorinated + just the right amount of food, 3 pellets of hikari bio-gold 2 times a day fasting every otehr 3 days their bubblenests are growing smaller by the day, but when they build on its only 1 inch wide and 3 inch long from the side of the bowl [long as connected to the side of the bowl] and it dosnt seem to be going away with the water changes 
(you do mean on the gill covers right?)
