When I got back from vacation, my betta had a bit of fin rot. I am doing daily water changes and using salt to correct it (this usually works). Two days ago, I added "polished river rocks" from the dollar store, after boiling them and doing the vinegar test. This morning I noticed that he has some red at the ends of his fins.

I've done a 60% water change, removed the rocks, and added some aquarium salt.

What I am wondering is if the red spots on the edges of the fins are due to the river rocks, or if the two are unrelated. -_-

Water params- pH: 6,6, ammonia & nitrite: 0 ppm, nitrate: 20 ppm, GH & KH: 3-4 degrees.

*I've taken pictures of it, but for some reason I can't upload them onto my computer. I'll add them as soon as I can get it to work.*

couple of my guppies tails turned red at the end just before their tails rotted away. id add salt and some meds if possible to play it safe.

I've never seen this before, even when my fish had fin rot. It's like little drops of blood at the end of the fins (especially the tail). I'm hesitant to add meds in case there is no need for them; I think I'll just continue adding salt and doing daily water changes.

I am thinking it is the rocks, but I wanted to know if anyone had a similar experience. :dunno:

Still can't get the pics up... I'll keep trying. :sly:

Alright, pics are up. Look at the edge of his tail...

Hopefully this will show what I mean.

i seriously doubt it was the rocks. you said you voiled them and they passed the vinegar test.
it doesnt look too serious. maybe just put him in some bettamax to be safe though?

Thanks betta_lova. :)

Yeah, he is acting fine... I'd rather not add the rocks back in- just in case. -_- I don't have any BettaMax, but the salt and water changes should do the trick. If he gets worse, I'll pick up some BettaMax.

Thanks for the advice. :)

Cutechic, it honestly looks like fin growth to me. Since I've seen alot of fin growth from my blue betta (and you should know ALOT OF FIN GROWTH) It would always appear a transparant, then go to deep red, and finally to its final color, in my case being blue/green. If you notice in the last picture, where there is a gap between the fins, and up in the crack of the gap there is a spot of red? Fin growth, that's what I think...

I did noticed that his fins were growing back a little. I didn't know that they turned red when growing back though. That's good news! I'll keep my eye on him and see how he does. Thanks GP :)
