I am bran new to the whole tropical fish thing, but I recently started up a tank about 6 days ago. I let the tank cycle for three days before I baught fish. After that I baught 2 guppies, 2 Graumis, 3 lemon tetra, and a frog. I have a 10 gallon tank with a bio wheel and air jet with a neptune heater. All my fish are doing good and my levels are near perfect. However, there is one fish that is not doing too hot. One of my Graumis has a red spot on his mouth and seems to be gasping for air at the surface. He seems exausted because he crashes on the bottom every once in a while. He also is not eating anything. Any help would be most appreciated!!!!!!
Thanks Chris[/B]sorry about spelling lol

Did you do a fishless cycle, or just let the tank settle down for three days before you added the fish.

What are your test results in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

All my levels are are near perrfect I just had them tested at petsmart. I attatched filter, heater, put in gravel, plastic plants, de-chlorinated the water and let the tank sit for three days with filter and heater turned on. He is a gonner i think, he just started swiming sideways on the bottom and isn't looking good at all. :( :( :(

He's gone....gills arn't moving fins arn't moving.......yea he is gone :( :( :( Well no one said it was easy starting up a new tank

When should I start doing routine water changes...do i wait a while for the tank to cycle or do i start doing them now??????

Are the other fish gasping at the top of the tank, I would suggest you go and buy some test kits so you no your water stats, in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph liquid ones, if you can't affford them all at once buy the test strip one for now, but not as accurate as liquid ones.

The other fish are perffectly fine. The tetras are schooling, the two guppies are together and the lone Graumi is doing just fine. None of the other fish are gaspping or showing any signs of discomfort. But when should I start doing routine water changes???????????????

Read the cycle article, get a test kit as you need one as this is why you need them to no your test results, which tell you when to do a water change if they readings get to high while you are cycling, if fish start gasping at the top and heavy breathing do an immediate water change, do you have an airstone for aeration, don't no if you can add salt to the tank with having the frog as this will help during the cycle.
