Hello, I'm new!
I've seen some cichlids at my local fish shop I've been thinking of getting... But I cannot remember their names to find out more info before I buy!
They were black and white/silver, looked similar to convicts. However they had 'Red' in their name, red tailed or something? They're not shellers, any ideas?
Thanks!

Honduran Red Point?

They look very similar, top lad!
Now to find out if they'll get on well with my Sevs :)

Red parrot?

( i think thats south african though im not sure )
when ever i go to my LFS red Parrots always seem to follow me.. and theres a few inked ones aswel witch have been there a couple months now... im still wondering why they hav'nt died off due to any type of poisonings... :/ ( not that i want them to die off... there buetiful but i just cant see why on earth some-one would ink such buetiful fish :/  )

Nah not red parrots, I have one of those and sell plenty at my work.
Tattood fish is disgusting, I would never buy a fish from any shop that sold inked fish.

Fairly sure they were Honduran Red Points that I saw after doing a bit of searching. Thanks :)

So long as the tank is large enough, then HRP should get on fine with severums, so long as they are not snack size when you add them (assuming the sev's arent small as well of course).

Meet Sev and Rum :)

They're only small and have a 55g. Only got set up yesterday (water and filter came from my old tank) so ignore the plastic plants, still waiting on my real ones!

I think I'll get 2 of the Red Points, what price would you expect to pay? They're about 3 - 4 inches.

Great photo josh. I love it the black background with the cute little bright severums.

Go HRP. they are pretty peaceful, but you do feel it when Gravel Vaccuming and the 2" pair attacks you. Even though I believe they have no more eggs cause they att them, or they moved them under a rock which, I highly doubt.

my god!!! Rum is such a good name for a sev that is possibly the best fish name ever IMO

They look great and I hate to be the bad guy here, but I should mention to you that a 55g isnt large enough long term for two severums. They are fairly slow growing as cichlids go, about 1/4-1/2" monthly with good water and feeding, but as they could potentially reach 10", they really should be in a 100g for long term health and happiness. Sorry not trying to preach, but sometimes people dont realise how big and stocky these fish can get and just how much room they need. But you have a while before you need to worry about it. :)

Yeah I know a 55g isn't big enough to house them forever, but for now they have loads of room!
When they approach 6inch or so, I should have saved enough money for a new tank. I hate overstocking and refuse so many sales at work when people don't seem interested in upgrading in the future and just say "We'll just bring them back..."

Water quality is perfect and they get a very varied diet :)

Well I'm off to get 3 HRPs later today, hopefully 2 females and 1 male.
Shall get a photo when they're settled!

Its actually best to keep them in pairs not sure how a trio will work. I would wait for a male and a female to pair up and then take the other one back my HRPs are breeding as normal and they are giving my new A.Diadema quite a hard time so not sure how they would react to an other HRP present as sometimes conspesific agression can be greater than that to an other species cichlid or not.

Good luck though! I will also be keen to see how they get on with the sevs because I love sevs and want to mix my HRP with them one day but unsure if I want a one big tank or one big SA tank and a smaller CA tank for the HRPs etc

They're all getting along great! I've got 2 females and 1 male, migth go back tomorrow and get another pair. I love them, look like mini frontosas :)
£6 per pair which is a good price I think!

The two girlys (can't really see their orange bellys on the pics)
