These diaries are great. People can read them and make their own minds up, rather that people offering wide and varied views (and confusing them (that's me...confuddled)).

you would do well to thoroughly research products like this before tossing them into your tanks. had you read on one of the reef sites you probably would have hesitated.

good luck.

odds are heavy the cyano will return after a few days when the treatment is done.

ive read it works and and doesnt have side effects, anyways if it doesnt we will all no that it doesnt and no one buy it. anyways ill just deamand my money back :D remember this if u make a scene when demanding it back they usual do or call the police :/
its more of a experiment i guess ostrow, and by the way u dont stop dosing right after it goes away that probaly why it came back for whoever

You really need to do your reading, lionfish. Misused, this product can have devastating effects on a system. Read the directions on the ultralife. 2 doses only, then you have to wait I can't recall how long, at least several days maybe a week, before dosing again.

If you like to experiment with your tank by dumping snake oils in that is fine, but it is hardly the recommended approach to reefkeeping which is a rather expensive hobby for most of us. The rock alone is hundreds of dollars on an average sized tank. Whether diatoms or cyanobacteria, there are solutions that are better and safer than pouring junk in.

every seven days ostrow, and befor i used it i let my lfs who were trying it out to get done to see if it worked for them and it did with no side effects

George Burns also smoked cigars for 100 years with no apparent side effects ;)
What kind of water are you using? R/o? An algae problem is symptomatic of a system which is high in nutrients.. What kind of protein skimmer are you using? Overfeeding? Sand bed? Whats your setup? I'd get some chemipure and start using R/o water if you're not.. Also cut back on your light cycle.. Had some cyano in my tank, kept the lights off for a day, the next day more than half of it was dead!

here is it now, clearing up quiet well, i knew i had hair algae but now i realize how much i have!! i tried ti the light thing, kept it off for 3 days and the algae just came back and i dont keep my light on very much anyways. i feed my fish once in the morning and then befor i turn the light out in the afternoon
30 gal with 2 millinium 2000 filters, levels r always correct, this is first problem ive really had in the tank.
look at all the hair algae  is there anything that eats that?

to get rid of the red algae, I would consider getting a skimmer and more flow in the tank. It looks to me like you have a build up of organics in the rocks and sand. with a skimmer, a lot of the organics will be removed and less detritus will settle in the sand and on the rocks. with more flow, the live rock will work better. this type of treatment will work but only for a short time, in the long run it is batter to solve the problem at the source.

ste :)

hey lionfish,
sometimes you dont have any choice but to turn to chemical
additives. I had a bad cyanobacteria problem about 2 yrs. ago. I
used a product called "chemi-pure"which worked very well.I personally
do not like recommending any chemicals, so I will just say that it worked
well for me, I have since not had any red cyanobacteria.my tank is
fish-only,so I dont know if it should be added to a reef tank.
good luck.

mines a fish only too. i just hope it all works out, ill be gone during one of my dosings and my grandma supposed to do it for me, but she doesnt no anything about aquariums and she might read my directions wrong :/
