I wasn't going to get any clown loach's after being advised against them on this forum but didn't tell my sister this and the other day she walked in with three of the little beauties.

I have put them in my tank for now as it has a lot of filtration but this gives me a good excuse to get a bigger tank as soon as pos. if not they are going to the LFS I don't want o harm them in any way.

The problem is one of them isn't as active as the other two and tends to stay at the bottom under the filter only coming out now and again for a little swim and to get what ever food is left from the others.

On closer inspection I noticed that there looks to be lots of tiny red spots that looks a little like rash under the skin around the mouth and the gills. Does anyone know what this is by the description and if it will affect its tank mates.

I will try and get a few pics tonight the next time he comes out if it is needed.

Thanks

to help you better
we need your current water params, the temp and any other symptoms
like rapid gill movement, breathing from the surface etc
basically anything this loach is doing that the others are not

I will get more upto date stats when I get home from work.

edit*
The temp is 77 (f)
ph = 7.2
no2 = 0
no3 = 10-25
GH = >10 <16
KH = 6
I couldn't test for ammonia as the test kit I had vanished in a clean up.

It doesn't seem to have any rapid gill movements, cant even recall seeing it going to the surface once. The others are always back and forth along the tank, swimming against the current from the filter or rummaging around the bottom looking for food. This one doesn't really do any of that.

Could be a parasite if he's listless, is he heavy breathing any red inflamed gills, also does he look skinny, also can be a baceria infection, any finally any flicking and rubbing or twitching.

Not the writer of this informaion.

Red spots on skin can be caused by:
Regarding the small red dot, small pinprick like haemorrhages (called petechiae) can be due to a local lesion, a generalised septicaemia or toxaemia caused by acute viral and bacterial infections.

Some parasites cause lesions that look like a fine red-gold dust, which is seen easier under a light. This very fine appearance is why this condition is called velvet disease.

General vitamin deficiencies can also cause skin and fin haemorrhages.

The red pinpricks sounds like a good way to describe it close up. If it is that what are the chances of it spreading round the tank.

He just wouldn’t pose for a pic, this is the best one I got but the red parts are all blurred together and he is a paler colour compared to the other two. He does seem to be a bit more livelier today though so lets hope he is on the mend

Some patches look like septicemia, and the patch under the eye looks like a golden red patch which could be a parasite.

many thanks wilder, after searching all about septicemia and finding very few pics it looks like you hit the nail on the head.

The golden red patch under the eye is nothing to worry about, It did startle me at first when i saw the pic but after looking at the other clowns in the tank i relised it is just the flash reflecting off the gill.

Good luck you will need to threat the fish with a anti internal bacteria med.
