I finally decided to return my beloved angel to the LFS today :/ He was just getting aggravated way too much by the stupid serpae tetras, even after I made their school bigger. I love my angel but didn't want to keep him with such nippy little fish.

So, I was torn between getting a gold severum or a blood parrot... I got to the lfs and they didn't have any gold sevs, but they did have 3 "red spot" sevs... They are a lot like the golds, but have more of a white body with more red markings that the lfs employee told me would really show up more as they got bigger.

They were all so gorgeous that I decided to get one to be buddies with my green sev I already have. (Yes, I know they will need to be rehomed as they get bigger!)

I couldn't really find any info online about a red-spot severum, but I have seen a couple of references to a red severum with some GORGEOUS pictures and was wondering if anyone here had come across them before...

No, they're not dyed ;)

hey buddy, i was wonderin the same thing, i have both a red spot and a green sev. i have seen a few pics in a TFH mag that i had n the colour really does come in great. my sevs r 4 inches n i keep em with tiger barbs, i have seen the red spot change his fin colour b4, it changes fast n gets dark red when he feeds n his body stays a whitish colour, i wanna know the same thin ur askin, sum1 help us please

Here's a pic of one I found... Mine is still way whiter than this, but isn't it gorgeous? My lfs said they haven't found them to be weaker than greens or regular golds  He's settling in nicely. I'd take a picture for you, but my husband took the camera (and our son!) on vacation....

wow, thats spactacular, i seen the lfs sell a full grown 1 for $165, its a bloody crime lol. mine is wayyyyy whiter aswell but the fins r red

Oooh - is that Sunny?! I've always thought he was gorgeous!!

Wow, he was one of the first sevs that I really thought was just spectacular looking and all along, I'd just assumed he was a gold!

Now I'm extra happy with my purchase B)

Man if I knew that I could have bought red severums I would never have bought golds. The golds are kind of put to shame by the reds. :sly:

This was the first time I'd ever heard of them and the first time I've seen them at my lfs. They've had green sevs before and really nice golds, but this is the first time I've seen them carry the reds.

They've got 2 left

theres a member on here, Paradise, who has a massive one, with red all over, He has his own forum(i think its www.aquatic-photography.com, no sure though)
i'll find a pic for ya of it.
EDIT: got it :) , these arn't Paradise's but its theseverums of a good friend of his

Technically these are regular gold severums which were bred to have more red pigment on their face. They are still gold sevs, just more colorful :)

I would have settled for a regular Severum, I only wanted one because of their personality and friendliness (Yes, I care more about that than how they look) , but I am happy with sunny. He gets the best comments out of all of my fish, but that's because he's a ham

That's why I got my first severum - the personality! They are SO funny and personable. When I was getting this one, I liked the idea of getting a different color variety just for some interest in the tank.

I was trying to decide b/n a gold sev and a blood parrot when I went to the LFS and almost didn't get this red sev b/c it's a bit bigger than my green one but it's working out just fine. It's not a LOT bigger, just a little.

After seeing cichlid personalities, I don't know if I could ever focus on keeping another kind of fish.

golds and reds are good but whites  they're awesome!

An albino sev? I've never seen one, they must be rare

I have an Uaru, a Surinam geo (Sig pic), and my severum in one tank, the personality of those fish practically pours out of the tank
