Hi,

I had bought a small red oranda today... but only after putting in my newly set tank i noticed tat it has a small red lump on its skin??? is there any problem??? it looks quite healthy and swimming well..... btw, one of my ryukin ( smaller than oranda...bought together ) has been chasing it continuously.... it doesn't seem to bite it or nip its tail.... what can be the problem? does it mean my oranda is sick??
I would really appreciate any help....
thanx

Where abouts is the red lump on the goldfishes body and does it have any fluffy/cottony looking area's on the goldfishes body at all too? How large is the lump on the goldfishes body and can you get any pics of it? How long has the tank been set up and how many gallons is it?

Hi, I just added my goldfish yesterday....i had been cycling my tank for 3 weeks and everything was fine.....no there is no fluffy/cottony looking area....the lump is quite small, but visible.... i'd try to get the picture as soon as i can..... it doesn't show any problem in swimming and is quite active..... feeding and gills movement also seems normal.... do u think its okay? or shall i return it to the petstore.....

The red lump doesn't sound normal, pics would help a lot if you can get them, you can return it to the petshop but the desease/condition it has may also be treatable depending on what it turns out to be, so you may want to keep the goldfish and treat it once we know what it has :thumbs: . Either way the petshop you got it from is highly unlikely to treat it, so it is worth treating the goldfish yourself now you own it if we can find out what it has.
Does the lump look anything like the pics of the tumors in the link below or the cysts at the bottom of the site in the N/A section;

?

hi, the lump doesn't look like cyst... n its very small rite now to look like tumour.... i tried taking its picture with my mobile cam....but it didn't come out good... i'll upload the picture once i get my hand on digicam..... i'm just worried that it should not be contagious..... btw, one of my other goldie has been lying on the bottom since yesterday... it generally chooses corner of the aquarium behind the rock..... it did come out while i was feeding and swam for some time....then again it went there..... its gill movement also looks okay...... my other smaller ryukin used to chase it and i sometime find them sitting silently side by side at the corner...... can there be a problem? i'm so sorry...i'm totally newbie and little nervous... i really appreciate your help
thanking you

Glad to help :good: .
If the tank is newly set up or you are new to fishkeeping, then this article will be of much help to you (i highly recommend reading it)- it'll help explain things like how the water chemistry works in your tank and what a cycling tank is etc;

http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=10099

If the tank is newly set up then you need to do a 40% water change with dechlorinator/water conditioner right now (you can get it from your lfs/local fish store- it basically removes the chlorine and heavy metals and things found in tap water, making it safer for fish etc)- does the tank have a filter and how many gallons is it plus how long has it been set up and running now? How many goldfish do you have in it in total right now?
I would advise going out and buying a water quality test kit/s which tests for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates as these stats are important in fish tanks and will give you an accurate picture of what is going on with your water quality right now, which if the tank has not been set up for very long will probably not be very stable- test tube water quality test kits are more accurate than the paper strip test ones. Water quality problems could be a likely reason for the goldfishes odd behavior, so its important to test the water to see if these are the case or not :nod: .
Pics will still help a great deal if you can get them.

hi, here's a pic of my goldie.... its kinda fuzzy... i tried many times..but couldn't get good pic of it.... how does people take such a nice photo of their fish???? can u see the spot???

Looks like septicemia to me, treat with an anti external and internal bacterial med like Pimafix or "Anti internal bacteria" by Interpet etc as well as do lots of small regular water changes with dechlorinator :thumbs: .
