My LFS recommended a Red Fromia Star for my 24g Nano Cube as a scavenger. It is about 1.5 inches from limb to limb. What water conditions do they need? diet? lifespan? are they safe? I know nothing about them and finding books with specific information has proved difficult

they scavange and eat algea, they are safe, starfish generally live a very long time. Google formia indica or formia milleporella, these are two of the most popular species, also check out what Drs foster and smith have to say.

How long has your tank been setup

IMO a tad to small for a star

Do Not get it, your tank is far too young, wait 6 months or so, then rethink the option

Don't even get it after 6 months. It will starve to death and then possible NUKE your tank. My advice...save the money and buy a red colored coral when it's time. SH
