Hi guys I'm looking for some advise on my red eyed tetra he seems lonely or scared.

I have a 30 gallon tank I'm not done populating that currenty has

- 3 flame Tetras
- 1 red eyed tetra
- 1 Honey gourami
- 2 Oto's

He stays in one corner close to a plant comes out only once in a while for food and to swim but only a couple of times per day. (I've only had him for 5 days now)

I was thinking of adding two more red eyed Tetras do you think this will help or is that common practice for this type of tetra.

Any advise in this matter would be appreciated.

Thanks

They are a schooling sprecies best kept in groups of 5-8. They can get stressed alone. They can also be a bit punchy in my experience.

>>> What do you mean by punchy.

A bit aggressive.

Red eyed Tetras should be fine with other Tetras like Columbian and Neons right.

Thanks

I have one red eyed tetra, too. He came with a second hand tank I bought. I'm not a big fan of his, so I really have no intentions of making a complete school for him. He actually doesn't seem lonely or stressed though; he swims around and eats well and hangs out with the lone black neon. There used to be two black neons.. they also came with the second hand tank, but my opaline gourami ate one. :X

Try a few more red eyes....they will all be better off in a group. I have found that this holds true with most all tetras.
