Red Eye Tetras

I have 5 red eye tetras. One of them is missing its adipose fin. All the rest are intact, and it's not due to any nipping. Could this be a male/female identifier?They all seem identical otherwise.

Adipose fins aren't sex linked, all tetras have them, male and female. It could be a congenital abnormality, or it could have been nipped off before you got the fish.
