Hi I'm very new to this forum I just set up a 30 Gallon tank about 8 weeks ago
never owned a tank before this.

One of my red eye Tetras is going to lay eggs very soon the female has gotten very big at the bottom over the last few days.( I also have two more red eyes to go with the one that is ready to lay eggs)

What should I do I don't really want to bread at this time as I have enough with dealing with the fish I have as I am new.

Please provide as much info as you can, remember this is the first time my fish will lay eggs so I'm new to this.

Thanks a bunch

how can you be sure that she is going to lay eggs?

Breeding
Females are larger and have a more rounded abdomen than the males. When attempting to breed them, a separate breeding tank should be set up with slightly acidic, very soft water (4 dGH or below). If floating plants are provided, as the breeding pair will often lay eggs among the plants.

Once spawning has occurred, the mating pair should be removed, as they will consume the eggs and hatching fry. One to two days after they are laid, the eggs will hatch. The fry can initially be fed commercially prepared fry foods, then freshly hatched brine shrimp, and eventually finely crushed flake foods

are you sure you are not mistaken and it is just a female.
if you don't want the eggs leave them in he tank if the fish lays and they will be eaten

Thanks for the info she is quite big at the abdomen. I'm sure she wasn't like that before.

I'm no pro at this I quess I will know after a few days.

how long before she lays her eggs

Thanks

don't forget these are egg scaterers so if you female dose lay her eggs they must be fertulized by a male when they have left her abdomen. they can lay up to 100 eggs at a time and the fry grow fast reching 2 inches in a couple of months.

another sign of breeding is when the male becomes slimmer and the female gets larger.

if they do spawn you hav done well they normally only spawn in a well matured aquarium which they have been in for a while with no new fish introduced to the shoal.
