Currently in a 240 gallon tank at my school there is a hog nosed soft shell with a 6 inch goldfish and we would like to add a red eared slider, for variety, We don't really care about the goldfish, it was a feeder that survived, but we dont wan't to do it if the turtles will hurt each other, can it be done?

I would b a little worried putting the red eared slider in with the softshell. I live in aus and we have a couple of pest populations. I have heard they can take a finger off and here they endanger native turtles. But i'm not to familiar with these species so hopefully someone else with a little more knoledge will help.

It may work or it may not. I would worry that the RES would bite the soft parts of the soft shell eg nose or tail.

I have a RES and a softshell and would not even consider housing them together. My RES will try and bite anything in case it's food and my softshell is, well, a big softy and is afraid of everything!
