I have a Red Ear Slider Turtle:

This is the setup

6-7" Red Ear Slider TUrtle
38 Gallon
20 Gallons of water
Submergable 20 Gallon Filter
150W Submergable heater
2 Ramps
Mr. Doctor bacteria cube

I have 2 questions

How many of you use gravel in your Turtle tank?
My Turtle makes sounds like it is yawning or crying. How many of you have Red Ear Sliders that make noise?

i never had rocks on the bottom in mine and it seemed perfectly happy. i never noticed mine making noises, but hardly ever took him out, mostly just sat on my bed and watched him from across the room.

---edit----
mine wasn't a slider. It was a normal painted turtle. Wild caught, actually, when it was a baby! I know...probably a no no, I was young.

hi again...if you'd like here's some good info.

Have fun with your turtle...they sure are interesting!

the only reason i don't have him still is b/c of my kids and the salmonella factor...i'm paranoid(i guess).

Your turtle is sick, most likely with RI- they should NOT make a sound.

a 7" red ear, probably a male if it's full grown...should be in a 75 gallon minimum tank with a canister filter for at least a 200 gallon tank. Plus a UVB bulb, a heat source with a basking area. Your tank is too small. Your turtle is sick, get him to the vet NOW.
