Red Crabs?

ok i have 9 red crabs when i got them home i noticed that 1 had red eggs? can u tell me anything i may need 2 know about them? the 1 with eggs is in a seperate tank right now should i leave her seperate or put her with the rest?

well first off you will need a brackish tank for these guys 1-1000 salt should do. they also need land, and a min 0f 75% of the tank should really be dry land. but some people have had luck by sorting some sort of dry area in their hood, if you add a little brackish pool to it it is possible to keep crabs in an community tank. they do not hunt fish, though they will defend themselves if attacked. they eat most things you would drop in you tank. as they age the veg side of their diet is the most important.

i have heard of someone breeding these guys at the same salinity i have mentioned above. but most say at least high end brackish to full marine.

crabs lay their eggs, and when they hatch, they are in a planktonic state, which makes them easy pray for being sucked into the filter, of indeed other crabs. that said if you have a second tank pop the female in there with 3-1000 of higher salt. after she has dropped the eggs pull her out, add some anti fungal treatment and plenty of airstones. you never know!!
