Just to let people know we have had a RC crab for a while now he has grown out of his shell three times now ! We love having him in the tank but all of a sudden he has started to eat the fish !! We were warned that he might go for the small ill ones but he never bothered until now. He has eaten 5 neon tetras this week and has just (to our shock) caught a small angel fish!!! We will have to take him back which is a shame after all this time but he obviously has a taste for them now!!

Yeah i had a blue lobster (crayfish) and he killed 3 of my fish as well as a neon tetra over night, he could get to them because they stay at the bottom resting at night.
Yeah we put him in the 2ft tank then swapped him at the lfs shop.

Awh i really wanted to buy one of these guys, shame they're murders! Really brighten up the bottom levels and add some variety :(

He shouldn't be in a fresh water tank anyway, these guys are brackish and should be kept at an SG of 1.003-1.005, and they also need land access to 50% land to 50% water ratio.

advice well worth noting. i would also suggest a sick tank. these guys don't hunt. but do eat sick and dying fish. ultimately though, they should be in a species tank.

I bought an RCC around Dec 15. I had him for barely over a week before he went missing. I LOOKED EVERYWHERE. I finally just accepted that he climbed out and was dead. This morning, around two o'clock, i had to get up to feed my son and as i waiting for his bottle to warm i went to watch my fish. As soon as i looked into the tank i saw a little red-clawed crab staring right at me. My mind is still blown. I know this may be a dumb question but are these crabs known to hibernate? I didn't see him for over a month. I didn't feed him for over a month. Has this happened to anyone else?

no, no hibernation. but they are, often, shy.
thing is, you should hardly ever see them, in the tank, they are land crabs. crabs, even in brackish, don't last long in a, totally, aquatic environment. so if you could sort some form of platform, floating on the water. or a dry area in the hood. things would be better.
