:/ Hi all can anyone give me some information on Red Clawed Crabs? I have 2 one has popped its shell and now looks like Tyson with boxing gloves on and the other is quite small and likes to sit on top off the filter, how do you sex them? Could we have one of each and end up with little ones? Please any information would be gratefully recieved.

Again, I'm not an expert but......

I bought three of these a couple of weeks ago. One died for no apparent reason within 3 days. The other escaped. I found it upside down (dead) in the hallway.

I've since put some stretchy fabric mesh over the hole at the back of the tank lid where the wires come out. All I can guess is that the crab climbed the CO2 tube and made a run for it!

The remaining one appears to be happy, though not sure if he needs company or not.

Irf.

I beleive that these crabs need to have access to air. They need a place in the tank where they can climb out of the water. I made the same mistake with a Fidler crab. It did fine for a couple months, but then died. I later found it it really needs a place to climb out of the water to do well in the long run.

All crabs, evene when they're sold as freshwater in the lfs, require brackish conditions or they die after a short while.

I've always wanted them, myself, but I don't want to give up my freshwater fish.
