hi everyone, i have a question, I have two devloped tanks with small comunity fish .One tank has a red claw crab in it, i am thinking of getting a giant african filter shrimp and i want to put him in with some other shrimp into my bigger tank but it has my red claw crab in it. Will they be alright together or should i put one or the other in my much smaller tank

but my crab seems very shy and not at all aggressive. and from what ive read this shrimp isnt tertorial or aggressive at all. also currently my red cherry shrimp have been known to sit on top of my crab and pick off pits off his shell which helps keeping parisites off someone told me. My tank has plenty of hiding space and i dont really want to move the crab or put the giant shrimp into a small tank. on the other hand this shrimp is quite rare and expensive so do you think if i put him in i would be able to keep an eye on them and see if they do fight or not. A sort of trial period

all fine and well but the day they decide to eat the same food you'll have a fight on your hands.

just after this pic was taken my 6 inch sailfin plec (not a softy) tried to snatch the wafer. he got a quick stab to the head and darted off. he didn't try again.

shrimps cant make that quick a getaway!!

i have taken your advice into consideration. but i am going to proceed in my experiment. +you have not seen the size of this shrimp it is a good 4 or 5 times bigger than the crab and is a lot faster. and they both have lots of room away from eachother plus my crab mostly sits out of the water. i am going to give them the tiral period of a few weeks where i will watch them carfully.

I just got a red clawed crab today hes so cool i got a bristle nose aswell.today me and my g/f witnessed a stand off between my male betta and my new crab the betta was just checkin him out not flaring or anything and got a bit close for comfort and claws were raised my betta deebo is no longer king of the castle lolhe ran away he moved back thought about it and ran.i like my crab he comes out the cave and gets a catfish pellet then runs back to the cave for a munch

robbo85: okay but keep an eye on them.

by the way on another related topic if you ever get an algae problem DONT use eSHa algae treatment.

it says fine for all fish and plants on the box but advises to remove snails.

NO MENTION OF BLOODY CRABS - after 2 days of the 7 day course i lost both crabs.

i've fed this back to the LFS who were horrified but took note - just passing on my experience.

thanks that is vital info. i dont have an algae prob. but if i ever do now i know. as for the crab vs shrimp situation so far everything seems fine. i think that the personality of the crab differs just like humans. i think i have a rather shy not very aggressive crab. thanks again for the advice
