Are these guys generally ok with say fighter fish depending on the tempermant? Miminum of 5g, how many to a 5g if species only? Best on algae wafers with blood worm treat?

Sorry just couple small questions to clarify, I have established tanks just wish to ensure these are suitable :)

not IME mine ate my shrimp

LOL, did he have a pigging feast I take it? I have a spare 2.5 and possible 5g, understand that the 5g would be best but thought might be nice to mix occupants a little, perhaps not!

Buy a ghost shrimp, and if you betta can handle him, then you have the go ahead to get cherry shrimp. It depends on the temperment of the betta actually. I would say you could start a small colony in a 5 gallon. But not with a betta, as he would eat the babies.

that is the one bad thing about the local area is shrimp go for about £4 each and ones looking at on offer are much cheaper..Hmmm.. maybe 5g setup to begin with then, will have a search around the stores again and try one with each of my boys, thank you x

Yeah, I would put a species only colony in a 5 gallon. I was going to do that with my 10, but I was won over by the 16 bow I have now, and decided on multies.

Depends on temperment of the betta most are okay provided you don't allow the betta to setup a territory before hand.

Buy the shrimp and remove the betta from the tank, allow the shrimp to acclimatise as per normal and during this time re-arrange the tank decor so that when the betta is returned it believes it is in a different environment. Place the shrimp in first and give them an hour to get settled in then add the betta to the tank, this should minimalise problems.
