Got a red bellied newt about a month ago for my tank. was informed by my lfs that he can live underwater as long as he can get out of water occcasionally which he does by sitting on the top of the filter.
he gets fed on fish flakes with the other fish but once a week he gets blood worm. can anyone give me any advice on looking after him and their behaviour. thanks

MIne does the same as yours, sits ontop of the filter. Erm i thought they dont eat flakes, obviously they do :good: I feed mine lil bit of bloodworm 3 times a week.

its about 33 gal tank. When i did abit of research i read they only eat live food but he seems to enjoy chasing the flakes. he's very active and has alot of character called him stompy as he stomps around the bottom of the tank as if he owns the place!!!

he is in a community tank with guppies a clown loach and an angel fish with a few minnows and they get on great. had a major prob wih a betta that had all his fins ripped of while i was at work by the two angel fish and he sadly died from his injuries. since that the angels have had a fight and one died now the tank seems to be in perfect harmony with no nipped fins or fighting!!!
