Hello, as part of my school work we have to set up a biotope for our science class :hyper: . my group has decided we want to setup a biotope with red bellied newts, we have a small tank each and have started it cycling, we know need to buy some plants, what do red bellied newts live with in their natural habitat?
Plants?
Fishes?
any examples of the above that would be native to where the red bellied newts live in the wild would be greatfully appreciated! :good:
Thanks x

Which type of firebellied newt is it?

Is it the Chinese (Cynops orientalis) or the Japanese (Cynops pyrrhogaster)?

i dont know? the most common type found in lfs.

this is probably cynops orientalis, so youd be looking at asian plant species like hygrophilia, crypts, vallis, try asking in the planted tank forum and im sure youd be bombarded with answers.

Also i believe (but may be wrong) that they live in streams, so small pebbles would be suitable on the substrate and rocky decorations

hi, thanks for the reply, very helpful! :good:
anyone suggest any other fish/animals that they live with in the wild?
thanks again x
