Hi,

After an unsuccessful try in a 1.5 gal bowl (room temperature fluctuated too much), Barney the VT Betta was moved to a lovely heated 20litre where he's now been for a couple of weeks now. Finrot and whitespot have been sorted and he's absolutely fine.

Question is, he lost a fair amount of his fins to the rot. Will they grow back to their original length and if so, how long would this normally take? Also, other than the aquarium salt I out in with every water change, is there anything else I can add to the water to ecnourage the fin re-growth?

Thanks,

TT.

Never had a betta, but I had a botia modesta (orange-finned loach) that had got fin rot. Most of his tail and the tip of his anal fin was gone. The day after I medicated him, his tail was nearly all gone. After a week, half of what he lost came back. After two weeks, it was all grown back. But his tail and fin grew back clear. It took another couple weeks for his color to come back also.

Just flare him from time to time, continue doing water change and putting salt. He also needs morning sun.

Barney should be fine and his fins will re grow.

For his fins to grow back fully and get the colour back maybe 3-8 weeks all depends on the tank, fish and meds.
