Recommended Books For A Cichlid Beginner

Hi,

Planning on getting a new tank in around 6 months - 1 year, around 150-250 Gallons, I am planning on making it into a old world cichlid tank, probably Mbuna. So i am looking to get a few books so that i can be sure i am making the right decisions as i go along.

What would you recommend?

The internet, the best book ever, and it keeps growing. Just Bing Mbuna requirements.

2. Who cares, I use it, as well as a whole bunch of other people.

I never said that the internet was a bad thing and I do use it for a lot of information. But I do find it is very disorganised even with a search engine. Which can make tracking down a particular bit on info a pain in the ####.

To OP I foundd the "A Complete Pet Owner's Manual" series fairly useful for when I first got my gerbils. I know they do Malawi/Tang/Lake Vic books which be about 8 quid each. Also there are the Aquaguide books which I know people have found useful for other areas of fishkeeping.

But I doubt the above books will go into any depth about individual species, more tank requirements, set up, etc. Ad Koning I believe does some books about cichlids which each have photos of hundreds of different cichlid species but they tend to be expensive.

Not sure what any of these books are like as I'm in the same boat and just starting to do my own research. For when I'm back in work and can afford to upgrade to a larger tank for Mbuna. But these are just some of the books I've come across so far by looking through the Amazon website catalogue of cichlid books. Which by the looks of things there are hundreds 0_0.

I can tolorate all of that. I am just use to disorginization I guess, it doesn't bother me.

I too prefer to use the internet though I agree tracking down specific information is sometimes difficult, that's where asking experienced mbuna breeders/keepers can make all the difference.

Well I've asked for Malawi Cichlids in the natural habitat, new 4th edition by Ad Konings for my birthday. Now the missus has to track down a copy LOL.
