Recommendations On Light Wattage And Temperature?

I have a 75 gallon (semi) planted tank. I am currently using a hood with 2 full length 40 watt fluorescent bulbs.
After looking at everybody's great tank photos, I am now wondering if the tank is too bright.

Does anyone have good recommendations on bulb wattage and temperature?

The lighting you have, 80 watts total, isnt too bright. Actually it's considered low lighting as it's under 1 watt per gallon. This will restrict you as to what plants you can grow successfully in your tank.

If you check in the planted section of the forum then you'll see some reccomendations to lighting etc. There's a pinned topic on it. The lighting you'll want will depend on what you are after. The heavily planted tanks you see in there require a lot more light than what you currently have (slightly more than double what you currently have), but also require carbon dioxide and fertilisers.
