I bought 3 glass fish from walmart. Big mistake. All died, and killed my Algea Eater. It had a high bacteria attack in one night. Glass fish were tainted i think.
Anyway, I have yet to empty the water. I am looking into how i should clean it to where no problems can arrise.(well none from the previous problems)

Thanks,

Justin

Word Of Advice:

NEVER EVER buy from wal-mart.....i learned the hard way too a few years back buying a fish from there and killing my whole tank with it's diseased wal-mart self :(

I have had good luck from Wal mart, depends on who is keeping the tanks i guess. I would wash the tank with aquarium salt and warm water, no chemicals. and you should be fine....

I don't think it was Wal-Mart as much as it was probably the painted fish themselves. In case you didn't know (which you probably do), it is a very stressful thing done to them to get them too look that way. Not to mention shipping, tank at wal-mart, and then transport to your house.

Anyway...don't rush to blame when you don't know for sure! Oh, and the hottest water you can stand and aquarium salt should do the trick.

I wouldn't hesitate to blame wal mart. At the new super wal mart where I live theres never anyone taking care of the fish. There isn't a tank there with less than 3 dead fish. At times I've gone in there and theres entire tanks of dead fish. Wal Mart really shouldn't be allowed to sell fish if there isn't someone there to take care of them.

^ see exactly what I am talking about. Wal-mart doesn't have anyone taking care of there fish. I was just there last night as a matter of fact and I saw atleast 1 dead fish in all the tanks and yeah this is a new super wal-mart they just build a year ago here so it's not like it's old or anything I don't think they should be allowed to carry fish either unless someone it taking care of them.

I've read really mixed things about Wal-Mart's fishkeeping practices. I think the overwhelming majority (including my local ones) are negligent to an awful degree. However, I understand that in some places Wal-Mart hires a "professional" fishkeeper to maintain the fish at a specific group of Wal-Marts in a region - generally four or five stores. I'm sure these folks are really more like "directors" who oversee the grunts; it's hard to imagine one person tending to four or five Wal-Marts terribly well. At any rate, I understand that in some of these cases, their tanks are immaculate, equalling or surpassing the quality of the tanks of chain stores like Petco, PetSmart, et al. So I suppose there are some Wal-Marts that do well with fish, but most, I gather, certainly do not.

pendragon!

I have decided that if I do buy a betta at the Walmart near my house -_- , I go ahead and treat it with melafix first thing! And it has worked pretty good for me. :Knocks on wood: :p
