Hi just about to set up a Roma 125 - the stock plan at the moment is for a trio of apisto cacatuoides and a large school of tetras (platinum or green neon or a mix not decided yet) At the moment I like the starlight bristle nose but I want to have two plecs in the tank as the bottom dwellers having had a BN in the past I know that they do scavenge quite well but totally know and appreciate they do not make up for tank maintenance. The main characteristic of the plec I want would be something bright and also something active my partner really likes plecs stuck to the glass so anything that would do this normally rather than hide would be an advantage. Thanks in advance Wills

*also to add in I like the twig and whiptail cats but know very little about them are they active I think I have read that they are mainly hide aways but all advice is appreciated.

then a common BN, 182's and 183 whichever one you are refering to as starlights are quite elusive and you probably wont get to see it much while young and probably not to much as an adult either lol... if your refering to a 183 then just be aware that as the age the white seams do wash out quite abit as do there tiny spots.

You thought about somethink like a 66 or 333?

yeah I had looked at the king plecs and also the queen arabesque are they both quite active?

Dependant on individual personalities, ive found queens hide most of the time and come out when lights are off.... tigers are a little better, they will or mine do and used come out that little bit more but tbh i woulnt expect to see either that much if there is plenty of hiding places.

Basically to answer your question, YES they are very active .... just when your not there and theres no lights on lol :p

lol yeah :/ thanks :) going to fish shop this afternoon I think to have a look/buy tank

yey got the tank :) well i have the stand the tank comes in on wednesday which Im quite glad about as we ended up having to shift some furnature around. Went back to the suspected starlights but its a little better than I thought on their list they are down as either L344 or L334 I cant remember ^^'' but i am around 80% it is L344 i find this exciting as planet catfish does not even have much info on them :D same with the 334 but the reason 344 are my odds on is because they are a type of ansictricus (sp) though if any one has any info on L344 I would greatly appreciate it :) Im very happy though because they have tons of them in and they are only small at the moment think it will be about 3 weeks till I get them but I might get 2 of them as they (according to planet catfish) only get to 4inch so would fit nicely into my stocking :) Let me know what you think :)

*quick update just been searchin and it is NOT 334 it is 344 though still can not find any info on them besides a small profile on planetcatfish.

344 doubtful?... best to get a pic when next up there if possible. Cant really help dont know anythink about them if they are 344, nor know anybody thats kept them.

Curious what they look like?

http://www.backtonature.nu/pleco/fisk.php?NR=63 - this is the only picture I can find its not too clear the babies in the shop have the same kind of spots but much larger but they must shrink in age and also the random white patches though most of the ones in the shop have them on the tips of the tails or fins though none are consistent such as appearing in all of them in the same place or even stretching the full fin.

It looks like a medusa pleco l034 but the spotted one I forgot the name sure someone knows what I'm talking about. If that pleco is any thing like my l034 you will never see it. If I see my fish move at all I get excited because it never happens when lights are on. I would not recomend the l034 unless you want a fish you never see. It is a shame becAuse they are such cool looking fish. They are really peaceful my new BN went right next to her in her space and she did nothing.
