The glass plate connecting the front and back glass panel of my 180l aquarium. I understand that this keeps the shape of the tank true, by preventing bending but is it necessary to attach it back? I do not want to risk any leaks from the tank

Support strips and cross members are pieces of glass that run along the top edge of the tank and help stop the front and back panels from bowing outwards. These can be glued back in with aquarium glass silicon, available from any hardware store.

Remove water from aquarium.
Dry glass at top where you plan on gluing.
Apply a decent amount of silicon to the glass and put the cross member in place.
Push the cross member down a bit to remove air and spread the silicon out between the 2 pieces of glass.
Allow it to dry for 7 days and set the tank back up.

Excess silicon can be wiped off the glass with a wet finger or damp piece of newspaper.

Try not to use silicon in a confined space because the fumes can make you pass out.

Keep the tank warm and dry while the silicon cures over the week.

Unfortunately I don't have time to do all this anytime soon. I'm moving out soon and have just cleaned my aquarium after the summer for my family to take care of. When I get a chance I will do that, I have all the equipment needed, just the matter of time.
