Fish Addict
Hi everyone! I've been inactive on the forum (sorry) for quite a while due to hectic family stuff, but I'm back!! I haven't had much time for anything beyond basic tank maintenence for the last few months, but now I'm ready to get back into the hobby full-swing!
I'd like to rearrange the fish in my biggest 3 tanks so that they're grouped more suitably.
I'd also like to maybe add some new fish because I believe I'm fairly understocked in most of my tanks. (Possibly some new types of fish, and some fish to increase the #'s of types I already have - more corys for instance.)
Here's what I've got at the moment...
30 gallon (36x12x16):
- 3x koi swordtail
- 2x panda cories
This tank has a fine sand bottom and is planted. I'd like to get at least 3 more panda corys as soon as the LFS gets them in stock again (I originally bought 3 but 1 didn't make it). The koi swords are all males (grr) -- basically due to a huge misunderstanding with the LFS. I plan to keep 1 male (the prettiest) and return the other 2 to the LFS with any male babies from the batch in my 29 (see below) once they get large enough.
29 gallon (30x12x18):
- 6x koi swordtail fry (about 3 months old)
I'm planning on keeping at least 2 females (maybe more depending on how many I have when they're big enough to tell) and trading the rest back to the rest to the LFS.
20 gallon (30x12x12):
- 3x honey gourami (unsure of gender)
- 1x female platy
- 2x peppered corys
- 1x julii cory
- 3x (?) otos
This tank is my oldest tank. It has fine naturally-colored gravel, a huge piece of driftwood, and lots of java fern and java moss. I *had* 3 otos in here. But I rarely, if ever, see them because they're always in the nooks & crannies of the driftwood. I've seen at least 1 reccently, but I'm not 100% sure on the others. I'm extremely fond of the one platy (a baby I saved from the very first 2 fish I ever bought), so I'm a bit protective of her LOL. And I know my cory numbers in this tank aren't very good -- I have weird luck with corys -- I always buy them in 3's and wind up with 1 or 2 in the end.
So...
How would you rearrange these to group them ideally? I know I don't want the platy in with the swordtails. (I don't want any livebearer fry other than the koi swords).
I was thinking:
29 gallon --> 1M and 2 or 3 F koi swordtail
20 gallon --> 3 honey grouamis, 1F platy
30 gallon --> 2 panda corys (and add 3 more)
I'm not sure what to do with the peppered corys or the julii (which tank, how many to add, etc.) And is my one lone female platy lonely? I don't want platy babies particularly, but I also don't want her to be unhappy so I could buy more females and just hope they don't come home preggo from the LFS (hahaha ya right).
AND ... once I get things straitened out with my existing fish, any ideas for ones to add?
I'd prefer no livebearers, gouramis, or danios. I've never kept any cichlids, tetras, barbs, or rainbows and all 3 interest me but I'd like suggestions of specific ones that might be appropriate for my tank sizes & compatible with my other fish.
The 30 gallon in particular I'd love to have something new, colorful, and fun to watch (because that tank is in my livingroom where I spend a lot of time). I'd really love to get a pair of baby angelfish and grow them up in there, but I believe the tank is not tall enough (16 inches) for them (correct?)
Thanks in advance (and sorry for the HUGE post haha -- I missed this forum!!)
Ideas? (For any of the 3 tanks?)
