I HAV 4 RED BELLY & 2 GOLDEN PIRAHANAS & 2DAY THEY BEAT UP A RED BELLY PRETTY BAD WAT SHOULD I DO I PUT THE BEAT UP 1 IN ANOTHER TANK BY HIM SELF IS THIS A GOOD IDEA

i think you got the right idea, you need to put the injured guy in a hostipal tank to repair and get back to good health.

I'm not sure what the golden ones are but are you sure they can mix?
are there any size differences?....how big are they?
how bigs the tank?

well the tanks 60 & the golden pirahanas are basicly the same xcept their bellys are gold & they'v been fine 4 about 4 months i dont know y the started actin like this all of a suden

Sorry to hear about your fish.

I'm not sure about mixing the species either, but... how BIG are your fish getting to be?? If they feel that they are in a tank that is too small for them, they will start to cannabilize each other one at a time. Unfortunately, many piranha owners have learned this the hard way, I myself included :/ If you got your fish as juveniles and you've gotten some good growth in 4 months, I'd be willing to bet they are ready for a MUCH bigger tank

It is also important that your fish are about the same age/size.

If you have not already, definitely move your injured fish to a hospital tank, if you don't he will be finished off or be injured beyond saving. If you were lucky enough to get him before the injuries became too extensive you should be all right. Piranhas have the characteristic of healing from remarkable injuries very quickly.

Good luck, please let us know how your fish is doing.

Yeah, they really need a bigger tank. Dont think about getting a school of piranaha if you cant get a 125 gal or more. And schools should be of about 6, under 6 i heard they would start fighting. But you should deffinatly look at getting a bigger tank before you get any more or re introduce the piranaha back in the tank. And i dont think its such a good idea to mix species either, unless they are exactly the same but just have different color morphs. Also, not all piranaha can school together, some are better by themselves.
Good luck!

WELL MY RED HAS BEEN IN MY HOSPITAL TANK SINCE LATE LAST NIGHT HE'S ACTING NORMAL BUT HIS INJURIES ARE KINDA BAD A BIG PART OF HIS TAIL IS GONE & HE HAS SMALL CUTS ALONG BOTH SIDES & 1 OF ITS EYES HAS A WHITE FILM ON IT

You have three problems, Firstly your capslock seems to be broken, it keeps getting turned on.

Secondly You have posted in the wrong forum, this belongs in either emergencies or charcacins, pirahnas are not oddballs.

Finally, you mixed species that you shouldn't have, While the two species look similar golden pirahnas should not be kept the same way that redbellys are, they are different species of fish and aren't going to school together, short run get them in different tanks, long run get them in different tanks or in one very very very large tank, were talking 1000's of gallons to keep them happy.

Im guessing that you have Pygocentrus Piraya and redbellys
The injury dont sound to bad to me, you can see piranhas in lfs where they will have large chunks out the top of their bodys and they will be fine within days.
As long as the piranhas you have mixed are all pygocentrus you should be ok if the correct space and hiding places r avalible.
Problems can still accur.....
If im allowd i can give you link to very good piranha site, pm me for it mate.
Dan

i know this probably dont help but when i was small my mum owned 2 piranhas and one took a mega huge chunk out of the other one u could see the spine and everything and it survived and lived for ages :/

This thread is a month old, I think that by now the situation will have changed already. I think people can stop giving advice now :p ... However, an update would be nice

Well since this topic is really old, I'm just going to say this...

Please don't post with the Caps Lock on, it's just a little annoying ;)

we had this discussion long, long ago in the General Talk section. if i recall, these were the two sides...

Why All Caps Is OK:
  • some people (typically older) handwrite in all caps, so they should be allowed to type in all caps
  • some people with poor vision can more easily read all capital letters
  • some people (typically new to message boards) feel that all caps adds a sense of urgency to their posts

Why All Caps Is Unwelcome:
  • a lot of people find the blocky effect of all caps to be ugly and a stilted form of communication.
  • all caps enhances reading difficulties for some people with dyslexia and similar syndromes
  • the Internet convention for using all caps is to indicate frustration/anger/raised voices

There is, however, no excuse to TyPe LiKe tHiS.
:p
