As I removed panda cories for breeding, I can see that my community tank clearly needs another set of bottom dwellers to pick up some extra food. (Between you and me, that's an excuse to buy more fish! ). Given that this 25g tank also produces bristlenose pleco fries, I want to stick to something that is really peaceful. Cories worked great but I don't want to get another set of cories. Do I have any choices within the loaches group?

How does Khuli loach sounds? Are they breedable in an aquarium as well?

Kuhlis are pretty and peaceful. gotta love a fish that looks like a stripy snake :alien: But I gather you need a few of them to make them feel secure, or you'll never see them. As most loaches are vastly difficult to spawn I wouldn't be surprised if kuhlis were the same, but thats just guesswork.

I want chain loaches . . . anyway zebra loaches stay really small too . . . I want those too . . .

As I mentioned, bristlenose spawns in this tank every month or so, and releases fries that are no larger than 1cm in length. I'm afraid of zebra or chamin loaches gobbling up those fries. I've deliberately limited the tank to bristlenoses, neon tetras, harlequin rasboras and cories since none of them are threat to the fries.

Just by observing the shape of khuli's mouth I don't see how they can go after the fries, and I needed some assurance (or a better alternative).

I think the male bristle should keep the offender in check. I doubt any of the mentioned loaches are likely to go out of their way to devour fry. But, if you do have probs, just keep in mind it is hard as HELL to take khuli's out of a tank. :p

Super fast, super slick, super hard to catch.

Yeah clown loaches are great, apparently really peaceful. I'm planning on getting a few myself soon. I like em so much

Are you SURE that they won't eat bristlenose fries that are no larger than 1cm long??? Just to be sure... ;)

I would say get the kuhli loaches. I only have 3 in my tank but they are always out poking around. :) I would say they would leave your fry alone. Just make sure you have plenty of places for them to hide in if they feel threatened.

I think there's tonnes of places for them to hide (see my 25g link) so that shouldn't be a problem.

At the end, I think I'm going to get a couple of khulis in the 25g and couple of clowns in the 30g tank... (But that won't work if I also add some S Multipunctatus in the same tank! Decisions decisions... ;) )
