You have a my friends box? I don't anymore, i see profiles the same as they used to be before the update .
Though if you click someones name in a topic a small menu comes up and you can select 'add friend'.

I just added you

Click on their name on a post and the drop down hass the option

I figured it out this afternoon, thanks smithrc, added you too
now there is something in the mutual freinds box
