Just to let everyone that helped me know that my little female cichlid has pulled thro the night and is swimming about in the tank :D Thank you

In the end i decided to put her in my other tank away from the meds. as it seemed a quicker fix. I really thought she was gonna die tho whatever i did.

Im off to get a carbon sponge today to put in the little tank, but a few questions

1..how long before i can safely put more dwarf cichlids in that tank, after the carbon goes in?
2..do i have to do water changes in there to remove the meds? and if so will my tank re cycle as its currently empty?
3..other than doing my normal water tests ie nitrite ammonia nitrate etc is there any way i can test to see if the water is med. free?

Since the tank is now fishless you can do a 100% water change (making sure to keep the filter media and gravel/sand wet) and then run some carbon in the filter for a week just to make sure all traces of medication have been removed. After a week the tank will be safe to reintroduce your female cacatuoides and replace the male that you lost.

BTW what size is the tank? A.cacatuoides is a hareem breeder so it is best to have at least 2 females per male if size permits.

Thanks again for your reply,
the tank is only 10 gallon, how many would you recommend putting in there max?
im also gonna need a clown plec for algae or maybe a bristlenose.
another idea is to keep them in my 40 gallon tank, along with my cories, 3 silver dollars a few neons, clown plec and parrot fish, and hopefully a couple of angelfish?
would that be ok?
