It was a bad idea to put aquatic plant potting soil under the sand when I first set up my 10 gallon female tank. I figured this out after I put a bumblebee catfish in there and he decided he liked the potting soil better on TOP of the sand. :/
So today I re-did the substrate; this time it's all sand. I also re-arranged the tank, and while it doesn't look at good as it used to the first time I set it up, it certainly looks better than it did post-catfish. :p
I'm sure it will look much better once the plants fill out some more. The platies are going to a friend soon, btw.

I also got some new girls from Walmart, because they had a crowntail and a double tail today... plus a little girl that is missing a LOT of scales on her back and looked like she needed a home.

The split tank... gonna get some opaque dividers as soon as I have time, but with all those plants, the boys are usually too distracted to flare at one-another :)

Where are the pictures of the bumblebee catfish? :p They have to be one of my favorite fish. I am thinking about getting 2 or 3 more for my 120 gallon.

Those are GORGEOUS tanks! I wish even one of mine looked half so good.

And the fish are adorable. Poor little scaleless girl! Any idea what happened to her?

Not a clue... I'm guessing she got scraped against something when being packed for shipping, maybe? It's definitely not a bite mark... a very clean wound, like the skin was just shaved away. She doesn't appear to be having any trouble with it :dunno:

Oh, and Raechal.... ;)

Hehe, I moved that guy to my 29 gallon, so I almost never see him anymore

  So adorable! I didn't see my bumblebee catfish for a month and then I caught him in a piece of driftwood at night. :p He hides under this log I have in my 120 gallon all day long and doesn't come out. The whole he hides in is sooo tiny. I wonder what he does there all day. :dunno:

He's probably sleeping under there all day... that's what mine does. He hides under a big piece of slate I have that's propped up to make a cave and almost never comes out. Occasionally I see him when I turn their light on in the morning, though :)

Most of them prefer to come out at night from what Ive seen. My little Pleco only comes out during the day if there is a cucumber involved. :p

Yep, very nocturnal little guys
My 29 gallon usually looks empty because the bumblebee cat and the bichir are always sleeping under the slate, and the ABF is hard to see floating around on the top :p

I love your split tank for your males.
I really want to set up my 10 gallon and put dividers in it for my boys but I have no where to put the tank and dividers here are $15.00 each!
Great pics and beautiful fish :)

I cheated on the dividers. I just got some aquarium sealant and ordered four pieces of plexiglass from a local glass shop... cut to size ;)
All that was left to do then was drill some holes in them (the glass place could have done that too... for a fee) and glue them in with the sealant

Edit: an even cheaper alternative is to use plastic canvas, which you can buy at any craft store.
