I got my aqualog special series book on rays today and after a short bit of reading my tank doesn't seem fit for rays.

The go on about sand needing to be low silica content and my sand is silica sand.

I am on the right track here? leaving me to change my sand if I did get a ray?

It has been suggested that rays are easily irritated by silica sand but as far as i know the sand i use which is called river sand is the same thing as silica sand and my ray seems fine with it.

Oh right, i'll have a look on the ingredients of the "aquarium sand" we stock at work.

I got mine from the agregates place next door. Fine dried silica sand.

Going to have to sort my ph out before getting one/two though

Also, if i bought rays it would be a species specific tank. I'd either have only rays, or have 1 or two carefully chosen top level fish.
