I have 6 female bettas in my tank.

3 are typical light body dark finned Cambodians, 2 are all red but 1 i bought because i thought she was a rare color.

She is completely yellow. Yellow body, black eyes, yellow translucent fins. No other color. Her fins are also slightly longer than the other females in my tank.

I thought i read once that yellow was a rare color when it came to Bettas. Any truth to that?

I haven't seen a true yellow Betta before but I have a translucent female and I've seen translucent males though neither is a common color (or lack of) that I've seen.

Yes yellow is a rare colour for a betta cuz yellow bred with something like red will most likely produce all red fry etc. Yellow is one of the weakest colour and I've heard that even if you bred yellow with yellow somtiems you still wont get any yellow But i bet the girl's beautiful!

I have a white male I just got ..... As far as females I have two .... One is a pale yellow with perfect "lined" red fins and a few TINY black spots here and there ...... I see them pretty often not pure tho .... If I ever saw a pure solid blue I would get her ...... And my male has a little blue wash by the way

Yellow is not a weak color. They do not work that way. Yellow is the first layer. Every other color covers it up. It was hard to get the other colors eliminated to let the yellow show, but there is more yellow bettas now. Several yellows will show spots of black on them, as the melano layer is not being completely removed by the genes. The layers are yellow, red, black, and the irridescence colors of turquoise, steel, and the royal , which is a result of turqs and steels. Every other color is a result of genes affecting these basic colors.

That is really neat to know, thanks.

Well good info to know.

She's my favorite betta in the tank. It's nice to see her yellow outline next to the large green amazon sword leaves in my tank. Really good contrast. I'll try to take a pic
