ok, who is good with catfishes? :)

I picked up one called a "Rafeal catfish". guy could not give me the scientific name. Looks cool, however... Appears to me like some sort of banjo...

Black with with white stripes. And dorsal has spikes in it... I will follow up with pics later. No cam ATM... thanks

Thanks there, Bozza.

I am thinking it might be a different species based on some of the pics I have seen on the net. And now the thread you mentioned. I guess I will find out in time. Still no cam ATM, so I cannot upload pics :(

Yeh raphaels are awesome.Even if it's not one its probably in the same family.

Agreed. Part of this though is they are social: when kept singly, they are very shy. Keep three or four specimens, and they will be more outgoing.

At least two species get sold as the striped raphael; mostly Platydoras costatus, but also Orinocodoras eigenmanni, a similar species but with a longer snout and a more brown/cream colouration rather than the black/white of Platydoras costatus. They're identical in terms of care.

Cheers, Neale

and they hide alot. trust me when i say alot.
