i went out to wal-mart today with my mom, she had a job interview and i had a doctor's appointment. anyway, i spent an hour and a half in the fish department.

no one was on duty. the tanks were so severly overstocked that fish were eating each other while they were still alive, just because they couldn't tell the dead form the living. snails galore, not pond but not much of a step up from them either. i'm so glad they have no bettas or i probably wouldn't set one free in eahc tank that had no fin-chewers, just so they had room to swim xX i spent a while looking at their products.

the marine betta kits, the ones i thought kicked butt as compared to most small betta kits, have let me down. instructions on the back? 'change a quarter of the water weekly' 'feed betta three-four flakes at each feeding' o_o it sickened me. so i left and went to a pet store nearby.

four bettas, all in cups. first was a red boy with a black head, no bubbles, clear water. second a steel blue with a bit of a nest going, third a failed 'marble' with a decent nest. last? a red with black-tipped scales. yellow water, monster bubble nest. he couldn't swim, but tried so hard when i saw him.

i want to save him, but i can't.

i went back to wal-mart and rescued an african dwarf frog instead, all i could afford, plus i've alwasy loved frogs.

i hope i can save the poor baby betta...

wow  i hate places that have bettas but havwe no clue about them and keep them in dirty water and teeny little cups. :(

the cups were decent-sized with caps that wouldn't permit a betta to jump but had air holes, and the first three had CLEAN water with nothing in it at all, and like i said two had nests going. those guys were not active though.

i just keep thinking 'bout the poor red in his yellow, poopy water with his monster bubble nest going. i think maybe there was too high an ammonia reading and that's why he couldn't swim, because his front end went up but the back couldn't move and his fins went wild when he saw me, like 'take me home, away from this ick! look, i made a nest! i'm a pretty boy, save me!'

=(

I hate Mal-Warts fish department. They are always diseased with ich being the dominant one. Ive been tempted to take meds off the shelf and treat them myself. But I resist due to not knowing if some caring soul has already done so. After all dont wanna over medicate. There is no way i could resisted getting that betta you spoke of. Id be robbing my piggy bank and digging between the couch cushions to come up with the moeney to save him if I had to.
