Hey guys and gals,

I was just wondering what could of killed my fish. I am baffled. :-(

My water parameters are: ammonia 0ppm, nitrite 0ppm and nitrate between 40-80ppm.
The temperater is 25C.

I was watching the tank this morning and all my fish were fine. The angel in question appeared to be normal as there was no change in his behaviour.
My mollies are all still live and kicking and acting normal same as my cory's and cardinals. The other angel now seems lost without his friend.

Shearer didnt have any redness around his gills and didnt seem to be gasping for breath. There is not white spots or ich in the tank and al my other fish are continueing. What could it be?

Will my other angel ever accept another angel fish into its life? Or will it be heartbroken? I plan on getting another angel tomorrow.

RIP Shearer :rip: (black and white obviously as the name suggests)

your nitrate levels are high this could have been causing stress to your fish you should do a water change to try to get nitrates down

40-80 is not really high.

I have some maintenance to do tomorrow where water is being removed anyway but I doubt that nitrate levels at that ppm would kill a healthy fish in a short amount of time.

Although its quite high, it should not be the reason for killing an otherwise healthy fish. Are there any other clues. How often and how much are your water changes

That is what I thought. I have a 190L and I change about 20% every Sunday. I will change 10% if I am doing anything to the tank like rescaping or adding a new piece of wood, this is so the level is lower so I don't get wet to my shoulders :hyper:
I get that fish die but I look after the tank so much it is unbelievable. I check the water levels after my water change and mid way during the week. Usually it is on the 20ppm for nitrate until about Thursday - Friday then it is a little darker and then the water gets changed about sunday and then I re test it and the level is back to the 20 or less.

Any crazy women spraying half a tone of spray close to ur tank. Happened in mine.

Hmm my wife does use oust in the house. The top of the tank is totally sealed and she has not been here this week. I do make sure she doesnt spray it in the direction or within a 5 meter radius of the tank as I read a thread that someone had all his fish die. Would that not of done the same to me rather than 1 fish?

Sometimes deaths happen jsut thought maybe there is some sort of disease you cant realy see or identify maybe common in angels? but who knows. Think I need a coroners report. lol

I would agree that 40-80 is not high for nitrates. I don't bother testing mine as it is 35-40 out of the tap. (South Staffs water - confirmed on their website as the average NO3 reading). So even 100% water change would only get it to that level. In fact it probably would RAISE it to that level as I am lightly planted, as OP seems to be too.
