I need some suggestions for my new 24x12x12 inch tank. I plan on having a breeding pair (hopefully) of rams in this tank. But i was wondering a few things about it:

1. what living arrangements should i use for the tank?
2. would it be ok to have a few Botia Striata in the tank aswell?

Thanks for the help :D

plants and I mean enought for the ram to hide. And usually its not suggested to put other species to a breeding tank beside the fish u want to breed. But in ram case, you probably wand up with 6-7 of them anyways as ram tend to pair up by them self, they wouldn't breed if you just put a male/female together just like discus. So get 6-7 little ram of any kind and let them pair up(personally I like german ram the best other ram doesn't come close to its coloration). Or maybe you have a pair already then you should put them in 20g tank by them self and have them breed there. PH of the water should be keep arround 6.5 and arround 80-82. Dont be supprise if you fail like to fungus and stuff, thats pretty normal over all. After a few more try ur fish will be a much better parent after. Good luck to ya.

Botia histrionica can be a little nippy and rams may get harassed. Maybe consider botia histrionica instead - very similar markings but much more sweet-tempered. Plant the tank heavily and use a fine sand substrate (for the loaches). A couple of caves (ceramic pots work well) would also be of benefit to both the rams (I assume a pair) and a small group of loaches.

Do you know where i could buy botia histrionica from as the aquarium shops in stoke-on-trent dont seem to specialise in certain fish and a lot of fish are hard to get hold of e.g. malawi or other cichlids, loaches etc. :D

Google for trimar, they deliver all over uk for a tenner and usually have quite a variety of loaches in stock. They are based in Cornwall.
