So I have a two gallon plant tank and two red ramshorn snails. They were both approximately the same size when they hitchhiked on my java fern and has since then grown to have at it like rabbits everywhere. And there are miniscule and invisible baby snails crawling all over. Anyways, I noticed that one of the original snails have barely moved from where it is on the glass since yesterday. She/He/It is also a palish, orangish yellow color. The other snail is perfectly healthy, red and having fun climbing all over the driftwood.

Is my snail sick? What is wrong with her?

so you arent trying to get rid of the snails? are you using any medicatiions for any reason becasue some can be harmful to inverts.

just curious but have you noticed any plant destruction from the ramshorns, as i heard they eat plants. i find them almost everytime i buy plants and i remove them whenever i see them because of how fast they populate. they seem pretty hardy and i wouldnt think that anything is wrong with the snail unless you have added salts or meds.

also, got any pics because i know some have great coloration.

I've noticed colour changes too in ramshorns. I originally got one or two as hitchhikers but now have dozens. Quite a few of these have a pale greyish white shellsalmost like albinos though the snail bodies are dark. My original smails werer all dark. Is this strange colouration due to a mutation or are they ill? All snails (dark and pale) seem perfetly healthy, breed rapidly and feast on the plec's cucumber

@Mza36 - The weird thing is that its mate (probably sib) is totally fine. Energetic almost. Since it's supposed to be a plant tank, I don't add anything to it except water and really cheap goldfish food that the snails seem to love. The only thing they were doing to the java fern was laying eggs on them. And pooping -grimace-

Found the snail dead, sort of a yellowish almost but not quite greenish color. Kept it isolated in a bottle cap for a bit but it never recovered.

The one on the castle is the one that got sick and died :/ it's startling how red he/she used to be. The exhibitionist on the tank wall is doing well and giving piggyback rides to its numerous children.

@fishnovice - Well all of mine are uniform, golden-shelled red-blooded ramshorns though... so far anyways. I did spy one with a darker foot but he seems to have gone into hiding =p
