Hi,

I saw at the LFS today that they have Ram Snails and I was
wondering if anyone has any information on them. Like, how
big do they get? If I buy one or two will I end up with a
million in a week or two?

I would really like to buy one, but I want to know a little
more about them first. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Ramshorn snails (Helisoma): There are a wide variety of ramshorn snails which have a shell shaped like a ram’s horn.
Ramshorn snails reach a size of 0.8" (2 cm).
Ramshorn snails may eat plants and multiply rapidly with overfeeding.
Ramshorn snails will eat algae

Thanks for all the information!

Do you know what temperature they live in?
I have a cold water tank with Koi that could also
use some snails. The temperature stays in the
low 70s.

70's are perfect. In fact, I was once read that they live longer when the temp. is in the low 70's.

I have 2 of them. I've read they are asexual, meaning they can mate or produce eggs on their own.

If you're worried about over population, don't be. Mine lay their eggs in jelly sacks about the size of 2 quarters. The eggs hatch between 3-6 weeks. They're easy to scoop out.

They are really cool to watch and they move fast (for snails.) Beware that they will destroy your plants!!! I've had 6 plants in the last 4 months and they've eaten every single one of them. :S
