Can you please advise me if Ram Fish - ( the ordinary ones - NOT Bolivian ) - are compatible with Dwarf Gourami and tetra.
Are there any problems I should be aware of with rams ?
Thanks
Steve

To my knowledge they should be absolutely fine. Though personally I've found that they do not like hard and alkaline water. So a PH of 7 or lower is preferred - as with most tetras really.

An afterthought - if I do introduce Ram fish, is it better to have a pair, two males, or two females - breeding is not important to me - avoiding conflict is !

I had male / female ram (whitespot killed female) with 4 dwarf grouamis and they were all fine.

I'd go for pairs myself, mine seemed to be quite close, funny to see them following eachother around!!!

Excellent choice rams in my opinion, amazing colours!

I added a pair of Blue Rams to a 50G with a Dwarf Gourami and the Gourami did NOT like the Rams one bit.

He followed them around, displaying at them and nipping them, even after re-arranging the tank and seperating them overnight. Unfortunately giving the Gourami to the LFS was all I could do to solve the situation. Both of these fish are terratorial and I think the Gourami saw them as a threat to his patch.

Gouramis can be a hit or miss, and tetra's, rasboras, and other mid-top level shoaling fish are certainly no problem. A pair is the only way to keep these fish as far as I'm concerned - their monogomous behaviour is what they are about. If you don't want fry you can keep some catfish (taking care to provide them with caves of their own) that will eat the eggs in the night.
