How do you raise the pH of your tank without using any of the solutions available?

I'm currently at 6.8 and want to raise it to about 7.2.

Thanks

baking soda or crushed coral will raise the PH. but thats a tiny difference to be raising it by. (but we careful with the amount you put in)

As far as the fish are concerned, there is so little difference between 6.8 and 7.2, it's really irrelevant. It's about the same as the difference you would feel if the temperature went from 68 to 72 degrees. You probably wouldn't even notice it. For that small amount, it isn't worth trying to adjust it.

Ah maybe a little explanation guys.

I have some Apple Snails in there and because they need a ph of 7+ I need to raise it slightly.

I'm clueless on snails but I would think they were very similar to most fish in being able to adapt to a pH that is outside their optimal range. I could be wrong on that. You may want to post something in the invert section for more information on them in specific. One thing I do know about them from research is that you have to make sure every possible opening in the tank cover is sealed or they will crawl out and die on the carpet somewhere.

What fish do you have in the tank wth them? If it's the ones in your signature, raising the pH for the snails could be to the detriment of your fish, a lot of which prefer slightly acidic water. Actually, the mollies are a bad mix for the others as the mollies would prefer brackish water with a much higher pH than all the other fish in there.

I agree with everyone else.
You really don't need to raise your pH that slightly. I'm sure your snails are probably very happy and have gotten used to the pH in your tank already.

I've had major probs with my PH being too high due to the area where I live. It was 8.4 and the fish I have in my tank enjoy a PH of >7.0. I don't think your PH is that much of a problem because the difference isnt that great. What I did to lower my PH definatly was find mineral water that was the ideal PH for my fish and use that instead of the tap water when I did water changes. Now my PH is sitting at 7.4
