how many larger rainbowfish are suitable for a 4ft tank if any? i was thinking of getting a small group of m. boesemani and/or m. lacustris to go along with some m. praecox

do they appreciate strong flow?

i think you could have a few in a 4ft tank. not sure on how many though.maybe 8-10?

6 to 8 would be a good number. Be careful mixing the small species, like praecox, with larger species as the praecox may get picked on.

I'm quite biased towards lacustris though. If kept properly, they show a wide range of colors from green to blue with a brightly colored breeding stripe that ranges from orange to yellow and even white.

How about a school of 7 Celebes, with just a couple of males? They reach ~7cm, just a fraction bigger than the male Neon Dwarf.

Alternatively, how about the smaller Rainbows, like Pseudomugil furcata (Forktail Blue-Eye) and Threadfin? In a large tank, depending on what else you have with the Neon Dwarfs, you could do some nice groups of 10-12 each.

Heck, you could probably combine all the above in a moderately planted, mild current stup and your fish would be in Rainbow heaven (while you adore their great colours)!
