Hi all,

I'm planning on setting up my new Rio 180 in the new year with a centrepiece mid-sized cichlid (leaning towards a Salvini, but still working that one out). Originally I was looking at Colombian tetras as dithers, and then I saw neon dwarf rainbowfish...in the LFS show tank they had an almost metallic turquoise glow which I thought would look awesome as a large shoal.

So firstly, is my tank suitable for a large shoal of rainbows (either Neon Dwarf or other)? And if so, how many would make for an impressive display? Will they use the middle/top sections of the tank (that's what I'm hoping for) and do they shoal tightly?
Secondly, I know my tank is too small for Boesemani/Parkinson's/Red Rainbowfish but are there similarly coloured smaller rainbowfish that are commonly available and don't get so large? If so, is there a male/female ratio, or can you use the more brightly coloured males only?

Does anyone else use rainbow fish as dithers for their SA/CA cichlids? Pics would be great if you can share them?

Thanks very much and sorry for so many questions!!

Nick

(Additional Info: Will be filtered by two Tetratec Ex1200's, and heavily (mostly fake) planted - but from my reading high flow and lots of cover are perfect for the rainbowfish?)
