My lfs sells hand selected pieces of "Rainbow Rock" for $11.50 a pound. Does anybody know anything about this rock? Where is it from, what makes it more expensive?

I just won some money playing poker... of course, I'm spending it on my new setup!

An attractive ornamental rock but will not offer the filtration that liverock can do.

Well... shucks, I was hoping that it was something I could use. They were in the section with the other live rock, but I didn't ask about their suitability. I figured I would leave that to you guys! Well, maybe I'll get a large piece or two, but I'll need to see how it will look with the other rock I will buy.

it's interesting looking, but seems more suited for a fresh water tank.

it would not work as base rock with live rock either.

canyoubelieveit.......i cant believe it!!! (sorry! ;)

I have just set up a Malawi tank using Rainbow Rock and 42lb in weight of the stuff (including a single 15lb boulder (gorgeous!) cost me £17.00 all in.

That's about $30 in your money.

Me thinks your getting ripped off mate.

So... I went my lfs and asked about the rock! They picked it up and showed it to me and it's not what we've been talking about. It's even more beautiful and it functions as live rock! I can't find a link online, but I'm considering buying it and from there I will take pictures. I think they might be calling it the wrong thing...

I wish I had a photo to share... but I don't!
I will check back in here if I can find a photo.

if it functions as live rock then feel free topurchse it if its as bueatiful as you say.. just consider one thing before you pay more for this though.. once the tak is established, you will have macro algaes and coraline algaes corvering most of the rock.. that extra cost is a bit mute after that isnt it? :/

I'm still considering my options... I may just buy a few pieces of this and mix it wiith Alor live rock.
